MoldInspectionMap

How this is built

Methodology & Sources

Every directory page on MoldInspectionMap is built from one kind of source: a U.S. state's public mold-assessor license registry. We do not add providers, estimate missing data, or generate AI descriptions of anyone. Each name, license number, status, and date is copied from the state's own records, and you can verify every one.

The data sources

Our first state is Florida, which licenses mold assessors under the Mold-Related Services Law (Ch. 468, Part XVI, Florida Statutes) and publishes the licensee list as a downloadable public extract through the Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR). We use the Mold-Related Services extract (lic07mold.csv) and keep only records with license type MRSA (Mold Assessor) and an active status.

As of October 2026, that is 2,759 active licensed assessors across 231 Florida cities.

Texas licenses mold assessment consultants through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). TDLR publishes a public Mold Assessment Consultant CSV with license number, status, licensee name, expiration date, state, and county. We keep only records marked current, with TX as the state, and with a usable county field.

As of October 2026, that is 877 current Texas mold assessment consultants across 88 counties. 2 current Texas record lacks a usable county and is not used for a county page.

New York licenses mold assessment under Article 32 of the Labor Law. The NYS Department of Labor publishes its Mold Program contractor licenses as an open dataset on data.ny.gov, updated daily, with business name, address, phone, license type, status, and expiration. We keep only active Mold Assessment Contractor licenses (SH125) with a New York address. As of October 2026, that is 513 businesses across 102 New York cities.

Texas county pages also list current TDLR Mold Assessment Company licenses (with the address and phone TDLR publishes) and counts of current assessment technician and remediation licenses, from TDLR's companion CSVs.

Louisiana licenses mold remediation, not assessment, through the State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC). We request the board's public roster for the Mold Remediation license type and keep active licenses with a Louisiana parish. As of October 2026, that is 198 businesses across 23 parishes. Louisiana pages are clearly labelled as remediation contractors.

What a page contains

A page is generated only where the registry actually supplies scoped license records (our "match-gate"). Florida currently uses a two-assessor city floor to avoid thin typo-driven pages in the registry tail. Texas pages are county-level because TDLR's public CSV does not include city. We would rather publish fewer real pages than many inferred ones, and we do not fabricate coverage in states that don't license assessors.

What we report — and what we don't

How fresh the data is

Florida, Texas, and New York refresh their license data regularly (New York daily). We rebuild from fresh pulls on a weekly schedule, and every page shows the month its data was retrieved.

Verify it yourself

Florida's license search is public at myfloridalicense.com. Texas licenses can be verified through TDLR's public license search, Louisiana licenses in the LSLBC public search, and New York contractor licenses in the NYS DOL dataset on data.ny.gov. Every figure we show traces to a row in the relevant public extract; search any license number to confirm its current status directly with the issuing state.
